New Delhi, June 29(APD )-During a meeting on Friday in Osaka Japan, US President Trump and Prime Minister Modi discussed many topics of significance to their states.

The bilateral meeting was held on the sidelines of the G-20 summit and the two leaders decided to resolve the current trade differences by holding talks between the trade ministers of the US and India.

Speaking on the subject, India’s foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale informed that the trade ministers “would meet at an early date and would try and sort out these issues.”

Trade differences had crept between the two countries, when the US decided to withdraw export benefits to India under the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP).

Thus, ended the preferential treatment that India got while exporting $5.6 billion worth goods to the US.

New Delhi retaliated by imposing tariffs on 29 American goods that were being exported to India.

According to reports, the new commerce minister, Piyush Goyal, and the minister of state, Hardeep Puri, would be handling the issue from the Indian side.

Meanwhile, Trump and Modi also discussed cooperation and collaborative opportunities that 5G services presented to the two countries.

US-Iran tensions and their effect on energy security of India was also brought up during the talks.

Reports suggest Modi stressed that Iran was responsible for 11% of India’s energy needs and “New Delhi reduced oil imports from Tehran despite the effect it had on the economy.”
