China’s Huawei prepares Indonesian students to face digital economy

JAKARTA, March 22 (APD) — China’s giant telco firm Huawei carries out Information and communication technology (ICT) training program for Indonesian vocational school students, enabling Indonesian young generations to further prepare themselves in facing rapid digital economy growth in the future.

Huawei’s initiative for the Indonesian students was implemented in SmartGen program, expected to be participated by at least 1,000 ones from 12 vocational schools across Indonesia involved in the program, Huawei Indonesia CEO Liu Haosheng said here on Thursday.

The SmartGen training program would usher the students to enter digital economy era with more confident as they already have the knowledge and skills to get savvy in business world whose operation would be heavily backed by digital technology in the future, Liu added.

Apart of that, the SmartGen was also expected to help Indonesian government in taking maximum benefit from “demographic bonus” the nation was expected to experience in the upcoming decide from 2020 to 2030.

“That is why we are focusing on ICT development program so as to transfer knowledge and skills for Indonesian people since the very beginning,” Liu said in his remarks prior to the signing of the program’s MoU document with representatives of the involved vocational schools.

Liu added that SmartGen program had also been applied in 7 Indonesian universities last year.

Indonesia was predicted to reap the benefits from the booming of youngsters at productive age in its population during the decade, may bring the Southeast Asia’s largest economy becoming one of world’s big economies.

Signing of the MoU document was witnessed by Chinese Embassy to Indonesia Charge d’Affaires Sun Weide, Communications and Information (Kominfo) Minister Rudiantara and senior officials of manpower and national education ministries.

Conveying the greeting of Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xiao Qian over the SmartGen program, Sun Weide said that China is looking forward to deepen bilateral cooperation in education and vocational programs with Indonesia, aimed at addressing human resources development in both nations.

“The cooperation program will provide enduring power for sustainable development for China and Indonesia as well as bringing benefit to the people in both countries,” Sun said in the event.

In his turn to speak Rudiantara praised Huawei’s initiative, saying that it would greatly help government in sourcing for ICT talents to address its digital economy drive.

“This is a brilliant idea to connect ICT talents and employers who directly need them to run their digital-based businesses,” the minister said.

He pledged that Indonesian government would fully support the program that would run until September from January this year.

Indonesia has set a target to see 180 billion U.S. Dollars of transactions made in its national digital economy-based businesses by 2020.
