Seoul Fashion Festival, hosted by VU ENT, brought 10 young Korean fashion designers to stage runways with popular rappers and electronic dance musicians (EDM) at Jamsil Sports Complex in Seoul, last weekend.

It is the first time the fashion designers have staged their collection at an outdoor music festival, which benchmarked the flashy catwalk of global lingerie brand Victoria's Secret. The world's biggest lingerie show has been inviting high-profile stars like Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber to perform on stage, while casting world-class models such as Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima and Erin Heatherton to kick off the runway.

Seoul Fashion Festival also picked 10 trendy designers to match up with 10 of the hottest fashion models and musicians according to the collections' theme and the entertainers' characteristics.

The star-studded lineup of the festival listed musicians, such as Dok2, Beenzino and Dean on Saturday and Jay Park, BeWhy and Kingmck on Sunday, joined by 38 more singers and DJs.

Fashion models from YGKPLUS, one of Korea's top model management companies, played the muse role on the runways ― some showed off their bubbly and lively characters and some overwhelmed the stage with charismatic walks.

Designer Hong Hye-jin of The Studio K cast high-end fashion model Hye Park to show the unique and delightful perspective of modern sensibilities in her clothing while street brand Greedious of designer Park Yoon-hee collaborated with punk rock musician/model Sin Hey-nam and R&B diva Jessi to express the brand's gaudy patterned collection. Other fashion designers like Ko Tae-yong of Beyond Closet teamed up with fashion model Kim Ki-bum, rapper BeWhy and designer Ha Sang-beg of Ha:Sang; Beg staged the show with big-name Asian model Fhifan.

The festival not only staged runways but also set up booths for individual fashion designer brands to promote their clothing.

Young fashion designer Jung Ye-seul, who presented her second brand 5252 by O!Oi at the festival, said the new fashion platform allowed people to come by freely and look through her designs while enjoying the festival.

"People who know our brand already visit us during the daytime. But we have more people stopping by our booth during the evenings, who first came for the popular musicians' shows," said Jung.

"It is a good chance to promote our brand, especially towards wider age groups. Plus, during the fashion week, the audience only comes to watch the collections, but here people enjoy both the music and fashion and they can take a break in between."

The festival was divided into two sections ― the main stage in the middle is called "Fabric Stage," where fashion designers present their collections while both hip-hop and EDM musicians also perform on stage. There was the "Color Stage" on the right side of the venue, which is an in-house club for EDM lovers to dance to that genre.

The collaboration between musicians and fashion models has become a trend recently as K-pop and K-fashion are both enjoying a heyday. The fashion projects between rapper Beenzino and model Kim Won-joong are regarded as the most successful example. The two highlighted a page in renowned men's fashion magazine L'officiel Hommes in 2013 and Kim, who became the first male Asian to join the Prada runway, appeared on the album jacket of Beenzino's lead single "Dali, Van, Picasso," in the same year.

K-pop idol Key of SHINee also highlighted the cover of fashion magazine Ceci with YGKPLUS model Kim Ki-bum, last October.

The street photo wall was another hot spot at the Seoul Fashion Festival. From the entrance of the stadium, the event set up a gate runway and street photo zone for visitors to show their fashions. Well-known local photographers like Hospital Photograph, Kaipaparazzi, Ms-Photograph and Wavefilm joined the festival to capture the trendy scenes.

"Seoul Fashion Festival provided a venue for people to catch the local designers' new Spring and Summer collections while enjoying their favorite musicians at a cost-effective prize," said the VU ENT official. "Such content had been limited to people highly involved in fashion, but now SFF provides a fashion playing field for everyone to experience."
