Newly-elected Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed serious concern over the delay in the endorsement of a bill to form the reconstruction authority and ongoing Madhes agitation.

Hosting a dinner party on Monday night for the top political leaders of major parties at her official residence Sheetal Niwas, President Bhandari questioned about the delay in the formation of National Reconstruction Authority even after nearly eight months of massive disaster.

Leaders attending the dinner informed media that President Bhandari suggested them endorse the reconstruction authority bill at the earliest, paving the way for providing relief to quake victims.

In response, the leaders said they are in the process of endorsing the bill through negotiations. The bill has already been rejected in parliament for three consecutive times due to differences among ruling and opposition parties.

Leaders from the ruling CPN UML, Unified CPN Maoist and even from the agitating Madhes based parties participated in the meeting. However, leaders from the main opposition Nepali Congress remained absent.

This is the first time Bhandari hosted a dinner party for political leaders after her appointment as the first female president of the country on Oct. 28.
