The internationalization of the renminbi (RMB) has been developing steadily, and has received wide global market attention in recent years. China's central bank has rolled out trial issuance of a digital yuan in multiple cities, making it the first major central bank to do so. However, some U.S. officials are concerned that the spread of the digital RMB could topple the "hegemony" of the dollar, and the renminbi could challenge or replace the dollar as the world's main reserve currency.
