A decision has not been reached on whether to allow foreign spectators to watch the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee President Seiko Hashimoto said on Thursday, denying media reports that a decision had been reached.

She added that she wanted a decision on allowing foreign spectators to be made before the start of the Olympic torch relay.

Earlier this week, some media reports said the Japanese government would not allow overseas spectators to attend the Tokyo Olympics, in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Previous reports said that the country plans to set a cap of 2,000 overseas arrivals daily during the Olympics.

The Tokyo Olympics, postponed due to the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic, are scheduled for July 23 to August 8 this year.
