South Korea topped the world in 2019 for providing aid to North Korea, with about 1,475.7 billion won (approximately $9 million).
The figure was published on December 30 in a report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on humanitarian aid to North Korea.
Specifically, South Korea provided North Korea with $5.5 million through the World Food Program (WFP) and about $ 3.5 million through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNCF).
In 2019, the total international aid to North Korea was about $39 million, the same level as in 2018.
South Korea also topped the list of 11 countries sending the most humanitarian aid to North Korea, followed by Switzerland ($8.3 million), Sweden ($5.15 million), Russia ($4 million), Canada ($1.15 million), Norway ($1.46 million), Germany ($1.24 million), France and Ireland ($110,000).
