Diego Molano, former Minister of Information and Communications Technology in Colombia, saysColombia's58percentInternet usagerate isalmost as high asChina's, butMolanosaysthe uses are different.
According to Molano, 85 percent of those connected use it for basic entertainment purposes, not to be more productive, not to learn or work on the net.
He believes that Colombiafacesthree challenges which go beyondbasic connectivity.The first is for citizens to understand theInternet's value.Second,how to transform businesses inpoor communities throughtechnology.And third, education –teaching people the skills to use the web and related technologies effectively.
