New Delhi, Aug.31,(APD )-According to a recently released study conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research-India Diabetes (ICMR-INDIAB), people accross the country are facing health problems because of their lack of physical activity and exercise.
The Madras Diabetes Research Foundation further said that less than 10% adults in India follow the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines which call for a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity in a week.
The study was conducted throughout the country and particulary focused on 25 major provinces.
Further, the study states that women are commonly less active than men. Only 3% women in India follow the WHO guidelines for maintaining health. In the absence of appropriate physical activity, the risk of diseases like hypertension, heart stroke, diabetes, breast/colon cancer, obesity and depression, increases.
The researchers find that the only way to mainatain health is by spreading awareness about exercising and increasing the level of activity.
A report published in the Lancet in 2018, states that world over, around 27.5% of people are “insufficiently physically active” and do not meet WHO standards of physical activity.
In the survey conducted in about 168 countries of 1.9 million people, they found that women are less physically active than men.
