Indian Prime Minister Saturday came down heavily on opposition parties for repeated disruptions in the Parliament over the ban of higher denomination currency notes, claiming that he was not allowed to speak there on the demonetisation move.

"The government has always said we are ready to debate. I am not being allowed to speak in Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament) so I am speaking in the jan sabha (public meetings)," Modi said, addressing farmers at a political rally in his home state of Gujarat in western India.

The Prime Minister also invoked the displeasure of Indian President over the issue, saying that "happenings in the Parliament anguished our President too, who has tremendous political experience."

President Pranab Mukherjee had Thursday slammed parliamentarians cutting across party lines for creating repeated disruptions in the Indian Parliament and asked them to do their job and not indulge in any kind of protests there.

The Prime Minister and the President's remarks came in the wake of opposition parties, led by the Congress, forcing adjournments in the Parliament every day since its Winter Session began last month over the Indian government's sudden demonetisation move.

However, Congress party's seccond-in-command and Nehru-Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi was quick to rebuke the Prime Minister.

"Modiji people are tired of monologues. I urge you to honestly face the Parliament & answer our questions," he tweeted. Enditem
