Indonesia records highest single-day rise of 689 COVID-19 cases

The Indonesian government on Wednesday announced 689 new confirmed cases of the COVID-19, the highest single-day rise since the outbreak in the country in early March, taking the total to 15,438 cases in the country. This is the first time daily cases surpassing the 600-mark.

There were also 21 more deaths, taking the total number of fatalities to 1,028, the government's spokesperson for the COVID-19-related matters Achmad Yurianto said at a press conference.

Health Ministry official Yurianto said 224 more people have been discharged from hospitals after their recoveries, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 3,287.

According to him, the latest total number of COVID-19 suspects across the country stood at 33,042.
