Israel will cooperate with a UN inquiry committee investigating attacks on its facilities during the recent Gaza war, Israeli foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The committee, set up by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, is investigating the circumstances under which the facilities of its Relief and Works Agency were attacked amid battles between Palestinian militants in Gaza and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The ministry said that it would facilitate the inquiry, dubbed it as "an authentic investigation that has potential of improving our performance during the fighting and enable us to learn from our mistakes."

The Israeli military charged that Hamas was hiding weapons and firing from the vicinity of the sites, resulting in the IDF firing at the sites. At least six sites were damaged and more than twenty Palestinians died in these attacks.

An Israeli official was quoted by the Ha'aretz daily on Thursday as saying that Israel has set conditions for its cooperation with the committee but did not specify them.

Ban Ki-Moon, who announced the establishment of the committee last week, said it will look into the circumstances of the attacks, as well as the evidence offered by Israel of weapons found in the sites.

Last week, Israel said it would not cooperate with the inquiry committee set up by the UN Human Rights Council, which accused Israel of committing war crimes in the summer war.

More than two thousand Palestinians and 72 Israelis were killed during the 50-day war, which was also known as the Operation Protective Edge. Enditem
