China urges US to revoke its tariff decision

China urged the US to revoke its steel and aluminium tariffs decision, which is in violation of the WTO rules, and bring back the bilateral trade of related products to normal, a Chinese commerce ministry spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.

The statement came after China's decision on Monday to take the appropriate countermeasures in response to the US' move to levy tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

The spokesperson stressed that it is China's legitimate right as a WTO member to suspend tariff concessions on 128 US products and balance the loss caused by US Section 232 tariffs.

The two sides should address each other's concerns through dialogue and avoid more serious damage to overall cooperation between China and the US, the statement also said.
