Cambodia hoisted the ASEAN flag adjacent to its national flag at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Monday to commemorate the 49th anniversary of the ASEAN Day.

Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, along with ambassadors or charge d'affairs of ASEAN countries and ASEAN's dialogue countries, attended the flag-hoisting ceremony.

The minister said after 49 years of hard work and solidarity, ASEAN has integrated into one community, enjoying peace, stability and development.

"Our ASEAN Community stays proudly, embraces the common identity and shares common vision of prosperity and solidarity," he said.

"I firmly believe that the ASEAN flag that we are hoisting today represents a symbol of unity and hope for some 628 million ASEAN citizens."

Prak Sokhonn said that on the day, ASEAN flags were hoisted simultaneously at all diplomatic and consular missions of ASEAN member states along side with their respective national flags.

"As we move to the next decade and beyond, let us today reaffirm our shared commitment to deepen and strengthen our ASEAN Community," he said.

"With our concerted effort in ASEAN and strong support from our external friends and partners, we will surely succeed in achieving a sharing and caring ASEAN Community and in contributing to peace and prosperity for our region and the world."

Founded on Aug. 8, 1967, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
