At least seven injured as truck hits pedestrians in San Francisco

At least seven people were injured when a truck ploughed into pedestrians in San Francisco at around 3:30 p.m. local time on Monday.

It is reported the accident took place when the driver of the truck ran a red light at Geary Boulevard and 21st Avenue and lost control, hitting two pedestrians and a parked car with a family of five inside.

According to the local fire department, two elderly pedestrians - one in life-threatening condition and another treated for serious injuries - were sent to the hospital. All the five people in the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Police and medical crews are at the scene. The truck driver is in custody and the cause of the incident is under investigation.

Local news reports said that it was traffic-related and there are no indications that the incident was a terrorist attack.
