India's COVID-19 cases surpass 6 million

India on Monday reported 82,170 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, bringing its nationwide case tally beyond 6 million, according to local health authorities.

The country also recorded 1,039 new fatalities due to COVID-19, pushing its death toll to 95,542.

India has the second-highest number of infections worldwide, behind the United States, according to Johns Hopkins University.
