Two soldiers from the Afghan National Army (ANA) were killed and 10 others injured after ISIL gunmen attacked a military academy in Afghanistan's capital Kabul, TOLOnews reported citing the spokesperson for the country's defense ministry Dawlat Waziri.

ISIL claimed responsibility for the attack on the Marshal Fahim Military University via its Amaq news agency, but this could not be immediately verified.

One of the perpetrators has been arrested and three have been killed according to TOLOnews citing military sources.

The president’s spokesman was quoted as saying that the attackers did not get further than the first gate of the academy.

The Marshal Fahim military academy is a 105-acre facility located on the outskirts of Kabul and hosts a majority of the training schools for the Afghan National Army (ANA).

The attack came two days after a Taliban militant blew up an explosives-laden ambulance in a busy street in the city killing 103 people and injuring over 230 others.
