The Education Ministry’s response to a top political adviser’s call for more physical education to make boys more “masculine” has triggered a fierce online debate about what masculinity means in China today. Why did this topic become so hotly debated on social media? What does masculinity mean today, and is the Education Ministry out of touch or making the right move?
