Bahrain's women's 400-meter world champion Salwa Eid Naser was charged with whereabouts violations by the Athletics Integrity Unit on Friday and has been provisionally suspended.

The 22-year-old Naser, who stormed to a 48.14 seconds victory to set the 400m Asian record at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, could face a two-year ban which would rule her out of the Tokyo Olympic Games that have been postponed to the summer of 2021.

According to the World Athletics anti-doping rules, athletes must report their whereabouts to the anti-doping authorities during a particular time every day to be available for tests. Three whereabouts failures in a year will lead to suspension.
