At least two policemen were killed and another was injured when some unknown gunmen opened fire at them in Pakistan's southwestern Quetta city on Thursday, local reports said.

Some unknown gunmen, coming on motorbikes, opened fire at the policemen and fled the scene, Samaa News said.

The policemen were deployed at a flyover at a double road area of Quetta, the provincial capital of the country's southwest Balochistan Province. The injured policeman was shifted to a nearby hospital.

No group or person has claimed the attack yet.

The attack happened a day after police foiled a major terror bid in Quetta by defusing a bomb at the busy Sariab road area of the city.

The latest attack is a continuation of the recent string of targeted attacks on police and security forces in the province since the beginning of this year.

At least 13 law enforcers have been killed and over 30 others injured in six separate gun and bomb attacks on police and paramilitary troops in the province in 2018.

The deadliest attack was carried out by a suicide bomber near provincial assembly last week, leaving seven policemen killed and 17 others injured.
