Pakistan to feature in Asian Volleyball Championship in Indonesia

ISLAMABAD, June 9 (APD) -- Pakistan team will participate in Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship in Indonesia later this year, officials said on Friday.

Shah Naeem Zafar, an official from the Pakistan Volleyball Federation’s (PVF), said that they have called 18 play in training camp being held in the country’s capital of Islamabad.

The event is scheduled to be held in Indonesian city of Surabaya from July 24 to August 1.

The team is practicing and training under the supervision of Iranian coach Hamid Movahidi at the Pakistan Sport Complex in Islamabad.

Movahidi, who was handed a six-month contract in April this year, has been tasked with the responsibility of training the side for the Asian Championship.

Talking about the Iranian coach, Pakistan team’s captain Naseer Ahmed said the Iranian’s impact is already beginning to reflect in the Pakistani players.

“He (Movahidi) has changed the whole system of the Pakistan team and has introduced the boys to modern volleyball. I hope this new momentum will help us show some good game in the tournament,” said Ahmed.

According to Zafar, the selection committee will finalize the team for the event by observing the players fitness and techniques during the training camp.

Pakistan is placed in Group B of the Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship along with Iran, Chinese Taipei and will also play against the winner of Zone II.
