Chinese companies are exploring business opportunities in Cambodia

Phnom Penh March 7, 2018 (APD) —More than 20 leading companies from China are conducting their business mission to seek any investment and business opportunities in various sectors in Cambodia.

The business mission is conducted within the framework of the Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) of the Royal Government of Cambodia and UNIDO to support Cambodia’s strategy of industrial diversification as well as the development of Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

Cheng Qingtao, vice president of CCOIC, said China has become the biggest trade partner with Cambodia and the two countries supported each other to facilitate trade and investment.

“Today we led the business delegation to Cambodia for business opportunities exploration and urged more Chinese enterprises to invest in Cambodia to strengthen the bilateral collaboration,” Mr. Cheng said.

The business mission was facilitated by the Green Industry Platform, China Chapter Office (GIP-CCO), the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). The delegation will also have the opportunity to meet with key public and private stakeholders in Phnom Penh and in Preah Sihanouk province.

Sok Narin, UNIDO Country Representative, said this forum provided opportunities for the companies that are investing in Cambodia and Chinese companies that are exploring business and investment opportunities to discuss on the priority sectors such as agriculture, industry, tourism, health, logistics and energy.

According to official data from the Council for Development of Cambodia (CDC), Cambodian government approved some about $6.3 billion, up 75 percent, with 183 projects in 2017.

From 2013 to 2017, total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from China worth about $5.3 billion—ranged No.1 among the top ten.
