Kenya reports 1,253 new COVID-19 cases, total tally jumps to 86,383

The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Kenya has reached 86,383 after the ministry of health reported 1,253 new cases on Thursday.

Kenya continues to see a steady ballooning of its virus caseload a trend that has remained since early October.

In a press briefing, the Chief Administrative Secretary in the ministry of health, Rashid Aman, also announced 16 new COVID-19 related deaths, bringing Kenya's total fatalities to 1,500.

Aman also reported that the country has registered 11,324 new recoveries, taking its total number of recoveries to 67,788.

Kenya's caseload is the sixth-highest in Africa, only shadowed by tallies recorded by South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia and Tunisia.

Its death toll is the seventh-highest on the continent.
