India's main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday slammed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for being in a hurry to start talks with Pakistan, hours after twin militant attacks in Indian-controlled Kashmir claimed the lives of at least nine people.

BJP chief Rajnath Singh alleged that Pakistan has been still continuing with its strategy to strike at will through proxy war of terror and urged Singh not to hold talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meet in New York Sunday.

"The prime minister is in a hurry to start dialogue with Pakistan. There should be no talks with Pakistan unless there is a conducive environment. I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on the police and security forces in Jammu. The terrorists have attacked India almost at will," Singh tweeted.

The Indian prime minister confirmed Wednesday that he would hold talks with Sharif in New York in a departure statement before leaving for the U.S. to attend the United Nations meet.

Experts say that the twin militant attacks could be a ploy to derail the talks between the two nations.

India and Pakistan have fought at least three major wars over the disputed region of Kashmir over the last 60 years.
