China, Pakistan support Afghan-led future in Afghanistan

China and Pakistan agreed to foster an environment for an “Afghan led, Afghan owned” reconciliation, amid the rising security threats under the U.S. withdrawal of troops.

The sentiments were issued following a meeting between China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi met and his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday.

Wang also vowed to provide more COVID-19 vaccines to Pakistan.

Qureshisaid the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project has won nationwide support in his country and vowed to deepen the ties with China.

Wang and Qureshialso exchanged thoughts on the shuttle bus blast which killed 12 on Wednesday.

Wang said he was shocked by the incident and urged Pakistan to quickly investigate the cause, treat the injured, address the victims and prevent a similar scenario.

Wang said if it’s a terrorist attack, Pakistan should catch the perpetrator immediately and bring them to justice. He said Pakistan should further boost security on the bilateral cooperation projects and ensure a smooth and safe operation.

Qureshi shared condolences to the Chinese over the blast, and said initial investigation shows it is an accident, not a terrorist attack. He vowed to continue the investigation and share with China about the result.

He said China’s loss was Pakistan’s loss, as China is Pakistan’s most reliable partner.

He also said Pakistan will try all it can to protect the safety of the Chinese nationals in the country.

The two sides said they will “always stand firmly together and support each other” on issues related to core interests.
