The CEO of Under Armour Kevin Plank on Monday announced that he is stepping down from US President Trump's American Manufacturing Council.

Plank's departure is believed to be in reaction to Trump's response to recent violence at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

In a statement, Plank said Under Armour, a US sportswear maker, "engages in innovation and sports but not politics."

Plank is the second CEO to quit the council this week. Merck's CEO Kenneth Frazier announced Monday that he was leaving the council over Trumps Charlottesville response.
