BANGKOK, July 5 (APD) -- Cambodia has not ordered to close 43 temporary border crossings into eastern Thailand's Sa Kaeo province as reported by some local media, border official clarified on Tuesday.

Sutin Benjavilaikul, official from 2nd royal Thai armed forces headquarter told media that the 43 Thai-Cambodian border crossings in three districts of Sa Kaeo province open as usual as no closure orders from Cambodia have been received.

He emphasized that Cambodia would not hold a grudge against Thailand after the government issued an executive decree to stipulate harsh punishment on unregistered migrant workers. He said the both sides would consider people's benefits first before making any order.

He noted that Thailand and Cambodia have been in good relations. As for the migrant workers issue, the both side will meet next week to find a way out.

The new labour law, issued on June 23, includes fines that can range up to 800,000 baht (23,557 U.S dollars) for employers who hire unregistered foreign workers without permits.

The government has invoked its absolute power to delay the implementation of the executive decree, putting off it for 180 days until Dec 31. Many employers lay off their undocumented workers in this period, leading an exodus of more than 4,300 Cambodian labors.

The closure of temporary border crossings, though not confirmed by authorities, has hit the headline of some local media, saying that it would help prevent smuggling of pirated goods and other contraband.
