Campaign busts over 12,000 gang-related criminal groups

A total of 12,485 gang-related criminal organizations and rings have been busted across China since the country launched a campaign against gangs and organized crime and its protectors in early 2018.

As of Tuesday, 3,880 fugitives suspected of gang affiliation and organized crime have been arrested or turned themselves in, accounting for over 80 percent of all fugitives, according to the national office against organized crime.

As of Dec. 20, 2019, 51,734 cases of gang-related corruption and "protective umbrellas" that shelter crimes have been filed and handled, with 61,227 people punished.
