COVID-19 vaccine distribution in South America stymied by corruption

South American countries have been waiting for access for vaccines to help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. But as campaigns to get more citizens inoculated begin, scandals and controversies have mired much of the operations.

The region has been heavily hit by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with over 20 million confirmed cases, according to a tally from Johns Hopkins University’s data. Brazil has taken the brunt of the pandemic, with over 10 million cases and over 250,000 deaths.

These problems have outraged citizens across the region, forced ministers to resign from their posts, and governments to launch investigations. Here are some of the bigger cases that have shocked the region.
