Thailand to hold bicycling event for king's birthday

Thailand has planned to hold a bicycling event on Dec. 11 to celebrate the king's 88th birthday that falls on Dec. 5, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Wednesday.

The event "Bike for Dad" is aimed at fostering unity while promoting physical and mental health, as well as the Thai culture, Prayut said.

On the afternoon of Dec. 11, the Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn will lead all bicyclists in Bangkok in a 29 km ride and participants in other provinces will start simultaneously, riding past key religious places and other major locations.

Thais living in more than 70 countries are expected to join the occasion, the premier added. Enditem
