Black rainstorm warning signal was issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 10:30 p.m. local time on Thursday, which means that exceeding 70 millimetres of rain is expected to fall in an hour.

The Hong Kong Observatory advised that the public take shelter in a safe place and stay there because of seriously flooded roads and inclement weather conditions, and do not attempt to travel until the black rainstorm warning signal is no longer in force and traffic conditions have improved.

An active southerly airstream is bringing thundery showers to southern China and the northern part of the South China Sea. The weather will remain unsettled with thundery showers in the following couple of days. Showers will be heavy at times on Saturday, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.
