China has reaffirmed its stance regarding the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and solving issues related to the DPRK's nuclear program through dialogue, Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at a press conference on Thursday.

“China believes the proposal of ‘suspension for suspension’ is the most realistic and reasonable proposal at the moment,” he said.

Geng made the remarks after US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that China and the US “would not accept a so-called ‘freeze for freeze’ agreement like those that have consistently failed in the past.”

The Foreign Ministry said that the proposal is only "the first step" in solving the DPRK nuclear crisis.

“Suspension for suspension” refers to a proposal whereby

the DPRK suspends its missile and nuclear activities in exchange for a halt to large-scale military exercises between the United States and South Korea.
