Pakistan’s top delegation leaves for Beijing’s Belt & Road Forum

**ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APD)— **A high level delegation of Pakistan led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left for China on Friday to attend the two-day Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation commencing in Beijing on Sunday, officials said.

According to a statement from the PM Office, the premier left for China at the invitation of the Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the event which is part of “Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road” initiative, which was launched by Xi in 2013.

PM Sharif is being accompanied on the visit by a high-level delegation and chief ministers of the four provinces of the country, the statement said.

The Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation will start on Sunday and will be attended by 29 countries.

During the summit, Sharif will address a high-level dialogue and the leaders' roundtable and will highlight successes and benefits Pakistan gained in China-backed China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the PM Office said, adding that the PM will be one of the three leaders to speak at the concluding session.

Besides attending the forum, Pakistani PM will hold bilateral meetings with President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

“A number of agreements/ MoUs related to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects are also expected to be signed on the occasion,” the statement said.

PM Sharif will also hold bilateral meetings with several other heads of state/government on the sidelines of the forum. He will also visit China’s Hangzhou and Hong Kong where he will interact with business leaders and will attend investment conferences.

The Forum is aimed at promoting common development through win-win cooperation.

A Joint Communique will be issued at the conclusion of the forum.
