Extreme storm hits Eastern China

Unusual extreme weather in Nantong, China, on Friday caused 11 deaths and more than 100 injuries.

Winds were so strong that an airplane was captured swirling around.

Airport officials later said there was no injuries or property loss.

Wind speeds reached 45.4 meters per second (100 mph).

The area impacted is about 125 km (80 miles) north of Shanghai

Some areas saw hailstones.

A fishing boat also capsized with 11 people on board. Two were rescued but 9 others are still missing.

Several buildings were damaged and many trees were downed.

About 3,000 people were also evacuated while 13,000 people in several cities were impacted.

Officials estimate 16.4 million yuan ($2.5M)in damages.
