The Public Diplomacy Association granted me, along with 93 other journalists from many Third World countries, the privilege of being in the Great Hall of the People on the day of the opening of the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

I had the opportunity to observe General Secretary Xi Jinping on the podium, addressing those present, the 1.4 billion Chinese people and all the people of the world, with his deeply calm, sincere, firm and profoundly human voice.

In the surroundings of the gigantic room, he was barely a point, just a man, vulnerable like all men, and yet, in his power of decision was the fate of China and from his tiny figure a planetary leader was projected. Watching him, a family came to my mind. It was a family I met in a small town in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. They had been poor until very recently, but when I visited them four years ago, they knew that they would never be hungry again, and although they still had many shortcomings in their lives, they knew that their baby, a beautiful and fat baby that I had in my arms, he would have a bright future. And that would be because of the man who was speaking in the Great Hall of the People.

The 20th CPC Congress is a turning point in history, in the history of China and in the history of mankind. It is a page turn, a paradigm shift, the moment that begins a new era.

Over the centuries, this Congress will be marked as the moment in which China reached the goal of all societies of all times, that all its population live well, to project itself towards a state of well-being in which all people have their needs met and can deploy all their potential for the good of the community and thus live a full life.

Likewise, the 20th CPC Congress will be remembered as the beginning of the end of the time of the colonial empires and the beginning of an era of a more balanced, democratic, cooperative and multilateral international community.

At this time when the entire world is hegemonized by the United States and its allies is mired in senselessness, turbulence, violence and disorientation, with its Congress, the CPC offers the Chinese a story: “we were starving by millions, we made a revolution, we developed, we ended poverty. Our march will not stop, we are going to build a modern socialism and our own, with the rich not so rich and the rest getting better and better. All together, all, all the ethnic minorities that make up China, we will move towards a bright future that will spread to the whole world.”

In a world in which few leaders escape mediocrity, even nonsense, says the PPCh: "we have a leader, we have an indestructible core, a rock that pulls us from the front and on which we can stand to push ourselves ahead".

The 20th CPC Congress projects its influence on the other countries because the influence of China is growing, so that what is decided for China will weigh on the global economy. Gravitation will unfold in two orders.

On the one hand, it’s the weight of China itself, its economy, its technology. China's needs are gigantic, as is its production. Any change can have decisive consequences throughout the world. Moreover, China has a specific policy towards a new configuration of the world through the establishment of new networks and alliances. Until now, from the time it started to play the global game 40 years ago, with the beginning of the “Reform and Opening Up” stage, China has abided by global rules, but as its power grows as a player, it is to be expected that you will begin to negotiate the rules of the world game. We understand that this moment has already begun and that this congress is an important boost.

On the other hand, in the 20th CPC Congress, there was an emphasis on centralization, both as a haven and as a launching base. China becomes strong when it puts its entire axis of gravity in the center. When it stands in the center it is immovable and if it is not from the center it cannot be projected. This implies the rescue of the traditional, both the classic and the socialist, and implies centrality of power in the CPC and in the figure of Xi Jinping, who in this congress is not only reaffirmed as the helmsman of China, but also he finishes installing himself as one of the world leaders.

All the decisions of the Congress were as predictable as they were forceful. The most solid and central fact of the congress is the full confirmation of the direction the country is taking, which began ten years ago with the first presidency of Xi Jinping. The document that he presented at the opening is a synthesis of the speeches that he has been giving, both in the evaluative aspects in recent years, and in the strategic lines that he proposes for the following ones. No proposal was new and all were amazingly solid.

In what specifically interests us Latin Americans, the congress continues to advocate for a great international objective, a projection of the "Chinese dream" at the international level, that China is called the "Community of Shared Destiny", which implies respect, peace, shared profit , cooperative development, multilateralism and abide by international standards, recognizing as such those established by the United Nations.

It maintains its implacable position of non-interference in the affairs of other countries, as well as being uncompromising in the primacy of economic relations. Relations with other countries run through the channels established in the economic order. Apart from that, there is the humanitarian solidarity that China unfolded with outstanding generosity during the Covid-19 pandemic.
