NATO exercise Ample Strike starts in Czech Republic

The Ample Strike 2014, a large aviation exercise of forward air controllers, pilots and other soldiers from 12 NATO member countries, started in Czech Republic on Wednesday, said the exercise's spokeswoman Magdalena Dvorakova.

The Ample Strike, the biggest international exercise held in the Czech Republic this year, will last until September 15. 1340 troops, 28 planes, including Czech Gripen fighters and F-16 combat aircraft, and 50 military vehicles will take part in the exercise.

Dvorakova said that flights are scheduled from September 8 to September 12, the aircraft will fly mostly in the military training grounds Bechyne, Boletice, Libava and Namest in the Czech Republic.

The main task of Ample Strike is the joint training of allied troops. Pilots and soldiers will train the guidance to the ground targets when supporting ground operations.

Troops from Belgium, Britain, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Slovakia and the United States participate in the exercise.
