Chinese, U.S. political party leaders meet

Chinese and U.S. political party leaders shared their views on fighting corruption, promoting rule of law and strengthening party governance at a meeting on Wednesday in Beijing.

The meeting, the eighth U.S.-China High Level Political Party Leaders Dialogue, was themed "rule of law and respective future development of China and the United States."

Party leaders from both countries exchanged ideas in an open and frank manner.

"The value of this dialogue is not to prove the correctness of the American or the Chinese model, but for us to understand how we each evolved and got to where we are today, and the strengths of our respective system," said Ron Kirk, head of the U.S. Democratic Party delegation.

Facing contemporary challenges such as nuclear proliferation and terrorism, it is important that China and the United States, as the world's two biggest economies, engage with each other, said R. James Nicholson, head of the U.S. Republican Party delegation.

The two U.S. party delegations also brought with them entrepreneurs and held a roundtable with their Chinese counterparts, discussing opportunities and challenges on doing business in each other's country.

Hu Yanxin, head of the China Economic Cooperation Center said the first "U.S.-China Entrepreneurs Roundtable" "shows that the two countries' party dialogue scheme has evolved gradually and become more comprehensive."
