Two killed in calcium carbide furnace accident in NW China

Two people were killed and 18 others suffered burns in a calcium carbide furnace accident in Shenmu City, northwest China's Shaanxi Province Thursday, the local government reported.

The accident occurred at an electrochemical company in Shenmu City at around 01:10 a.m. BJT on Thursday.

Rescue work and investigation into the accident are underway.
