Current cross-Strait relations are difficult and complicated, and any attempt to separate Taiwan from China will not be tolerated, Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said on Wednesday.
The remarks were made following a speech made by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Tsai Ing-wen on Wednesday's inauguration ceremony.
Ma added that any attempt to take advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to seek independence is intolerable and will harm the common interests of compatriots.
