BIMSTEC: Security personnel on high alert in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Aug 29 (APD) -- Security personnel are on high alert in Kathmandu as dignitaries have started arriving in Kathmandu for the fourth summit of Bay of Bengal Initiative or Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation.

BIMSTEC summit will be held at Soaltee Hotel on August 30 and 31. According to officials, as many as 18 thousand security personnel have been mobilized in Kathmandu. Security personnel from all security agencies -- Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police -- will provide security to dignitaries of the BIMSTEC summit in three layers with the NA soldiers forming the first layer around the heads of state/government. Second and the third layers of security will be provided by APF and Nepal Police respectively.

According to Nepal Army Spokesperson Gokul Bhandari security personnel of all four agencies, including the National Investigation Department would act in a coordinated and collaborative manner to provide security. He added that security personnel have been put on high alert in key places.
