Singapore police arrested two suspects on Thursday in connection with a shocking case of a male body found stuffed in a luggage bag a year earlier.

The police said that two male Pakistani nationals, aged 25 and 53, were arrested on Thursday afternoon.

"Through a coordinated operation involving more than 100 officers, the identities of the suspects and deceased were established within 24 hours of the report lodged," the police said in a statement.

The victim, whose dismembered body without legs was found stuffed in the suitcase, is believed to be a 59-year-old male Pakistani national.

The case has been classified as murder, and the suspects will be brought to court on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police and Director of the Criminal Investigation Department Hoong Wee Teck said this was a serious crime.

"Police are committed to solve crimes and we will spare no effort to track down criminals and ensure that they are brought to justice and face the full brunt of the law," he said.

The police received a call for assistance on Wednesday evening. Officers found a bloody luggage bag with an upper body inside without both legs at the scene near the downtown area.
