Eight out of 10 Greeks worry about economic future: survey

A year after the previous general election in Greece, eight out of 10 Greeks are worried about the future and disappointed at the Left-led ruling coalition, according to an opinion poll released on Thursday.

Altogether 83.1 percent of respondents in the survey, which was carried out by Marc polling firm for Alpha TV, appeared anxious that the situation may worsen in the future, in particular regarding the economic standing of their households and the national economy.

As many as 83.8 percent of participants in the poll viewed negatively the government's overall work, expressing disappointment.

The main opposition conservative New Democracy party has a steady lead in surveys in recent months, which was confirmed by Marc's opinion poll.

If elections were held this weekend, the conservatives would win 28.4 percent of the votes and the Radical Left SYRIZA party of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras would win 18.8 percent.

According to the survey, the far-Right Golden Dawn would retain its third place in parliament, garnering 8 percent of the votes. The Communist Party would win 7.4 percent and the socialists 6 percent. The junior partners in the current coalition, the Independent Greeks and the Union of Centrists would marginally enter the new assembly by securing the 3 percent threshold.

The survey was conducted From Monday to Wednesday across Greece.
