Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said on Tuesday that he will not ask for the extension of the State of Emergency by the end of the third phase, which concludes on May 2.

The statement came after the president's meeting with public health specialists on Tuesday.

"It is hoped that it will not be necessary in the future to resort to the state of emergency again," said the president.
