ISLAMABAD, Sept. 12 (APD) -- The Pakistani government has banned 63 organizations and groups for their alleged connections with terrorist, extremist and anti-state activities, an official data revealed on Tuesday.
According to the information from the Federal Interior Ministry of Pakistan, a total of 8,333 persons have also been placed under the ban on the directives of federal and provincial governments of the country.
The government has also frozen 5,023 banks accounts by seizing an amount worth Rs 400 million (3.08 million U.S. dollars).
At least three other outfits have been placed on a watch list following the same practice by the United Nations.
It’s major development by the Pakistani government in its effort to make the country peaceful and free of terrorism.
Sources privy to development revealed that Hafiz Saeed, who is chief of a religious organization Jamaat-ud-Dawa, and his four aides named Obaidullah Obaid, Zafar Iqbal, Abdur Rehman and Qazi Kashaf Niaz have also been placed on the watch list.
All the persons placed under watch list have been made bound to submit a surety bond in district police headquarters that they would not indulge in any subversive activity.
State Bank of Pakistan has also been informed about the latest developments in a bid to monitor fiscal transactions. Meanwhile, a list has also been forwarded to the intelligence agencies of the country, including Inter Service Intelligence, Intelligence Bureau, Federal Investigation Agency, and Military Intelligence.
Following the 2014 terrorist attack at an army public school in the northwest of the country in which at least 140 children were killed by the attackers, Pakistani government and security forces took a series of strict measures against different groups, organizations, and individuals resultantly killing, arresting and forcing terrorists to run away from their safe haven.
According to latest reports from National Counter Terrorism Authority, terrorist attacks have been decreased by 31 percent to 785 incidents in Pakistan in the year 2016 as compared to 1,139 attacks of terrorism in the year 2015.
