Bulgaria adopts implementation plan of national counter-terrorism strategy

One day after the deadly attacks in Brussels, the Bulgarian government on Wednesday adopted a plan for the implementation of the country's Strategy for Combating Radicalization and Terrorism in 2016.

The development of an effective legal framework for preventing and combating radicalization and terrorism was one of the measures in this plan, the cabinet said in a press release.

This included drafting a bill on countering terrorism and a concept of communication with the media and civil society in cases of crises caused by terrorist activities, as well as institutional plans for combating terrorism, the government said.

The plan also envisaged the development of a system for the coordination between the institutions in combating radicalization and terrorism through specialized contact points, a platform for quick information exchange, and a methodology to identify, monitor and evaluate of the risks of radicalization.

Meanwhile, according to the plan, the country's specialized anti-terrorist structures would implement measures to improve their administrative capacity and organization, the government said.
