Spain extends state of emergency for another 15 days

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced on Sunday the decision to extend the state of emergency, which was declared on March 14, for another 15 days after the end of the initial period.

Sanchez made the announcement at a press conference after holding a videoconference with the leaders of Spain's 17 autonomous regions.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Spain rose to 28,572 on Sunday, and 1,720 people have lost their lives to the disease, according to Spanish health authorities.
