The head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) said on Wednesday Washington should move its bases to a distance of 1,000 kilometers around Iran, and avoid "miscalculations" over new sanctions against Tehran.

US government imposed the new sanctions on Tuesday over Iran's ballistic missile program and said Tehran's "malign activities" in the Middle East undercut any positive contributions coming from the 2015 nuclear accord.

The United States has military bases in Qatar and Kuwait, and the US navy's Fifth Fleet is based in nearby Bahrain. Tehran has warned multiple times that all of those bases are within range of its ballistic missiles.

IRGC has repeatedly test-fired ballistic missiles, which Washington sees as a challenge to a UN resolution and the nuclear deal. However, Iran insists its program is defensive, and does not violate the nuclear accord.
