In the aftermath of the siege on the U.S. Capitol, news broke that multiple members of the Trump supporting mob that lead the attack had connections with white nationalist and right-wing extremist groups, while also being connected with U.S. law enforcement and the military.

This has forced the Pentagon and some police departments to look within their ranks for the members harboring these far-right ideologies. It has also led to questions about how exactly these extremists and their views are working within the institutions.

Dr. Pete Simi, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Chapman University, explains the history of white nationalist infiltration in police departments and military and what is needed to combat the dangers of this issue.
