Since the first coronavirus case was recorded on the African continent early last year, over 3.5 million people have recovered from the outbreak in Africa. As of Friday the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) reported 3,512,473 recoveries on its website. /Africa-CDC

Since the first coronavirus case was recorded on the African continent early last year, over 3.5 million people have recovered from the outbreak in Africa. As of Friday the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) reported 3,512,473 recoveries on its website.

Furthermore the Africa CDC, the specialized healthcare agency of the 55-member African Union (AU) said that said 3,937,028 infections were registered on the same day.

Unfortunately the loss of life figures as a consequence of the contagion stood at 105,001.

The Africa CDC noted that the most affected countries in terms of the number of confirmed positive cases are South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Ethiopia. It is imperative to note that South Africa is currently battling a new strain.

South Africa has lost over 50,366 lives to the disease, the most among African countries, according to the agency.

Egypt and Morocco have the second and third highest fatalities, inflicted deaths, respectively, the Africa CDC said.

The African Union had recently emphasized that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic "is not just a severe health emergency, it is also a grave economic and social crisis."
