Two Chinese tourists died, one injured in fire at Russia's Lake Baikal

Two Chinese female tourists have been confirmed dead in a fire that broke out at a tourist facility on Lake Baikal’s Olkhon Island, Russia, according to an official from the Chinese consulate in Irkutsk on Monday.

Local media previously reported that two bodies were found but they couldn’t be identified due to the severity of their burns.

A total of seven people were injured in the blaze, including one local, one Chinese and four South Koreans. The nationality of the seventh wounded person has not yet been clear.

According to TASS news agency, 34 people, mostly tourists from China and South Korea, were inside the facility at the time of the fire, which started early on Sunday morning.

The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
